W drodze do Balikesir // On the way to Balikesir – day 3

Spotkanie kończymy tradycyjnymi słodyczami tureckimi i herbatą.

A day full of excitement ahead of us, we are going to observe the work at the school in Balikesir Valiligi Fatma Emin Kutvar Anadoul Lisesi School. We are excited, so we set several alarm clocks for 7 in the morning, careful not to oversleep, but we are awakened much earlier by the ezan call to universal prayer coming from the nearby minarets. It’s still dark, we get up, quick wash  and leave our cozy flat in Istanbul. We go to the subway, we have time, but we are weary of mishaps along the way. The city is just coming to life, the journey is going very smoothly and we are at the bus station definitely ahead of schedule. We can choose the cafe where we have breakfast – filo pastry with baked cheese. Plus, of course, traditional Turkish tea. The bus heads off at 10. It is very comfortable, each of us has a numbered seat – men and women sit separately. The journey is very long, it takes 6 hours. It’s amazing how everything changes along the way, we get on the bus when it’s warm around 21 degrees, after a few hours the thermometer shows 27 degrees. We specially get off at the stop to enjoy the warm rays of the sun. Unfortunately, the closer to Balikesir, the worse the weather gets. It’s raining, the temperature drops to 19 degrees, but when we get off, it stops raining. At the station, an English teacher – Yusuf Bozkurt – our host is waiting for us. We feel very taken care of, we drive his car to the hotel. Along the way, he tells us about the city, school, and himself. It feels like we’ve known him for a long time. We unpack at the hotel, it is very comfortable, has a spacious interior and we go out as soon as possible to see the city. We are staying  in the very center, there are plenty of shops around, it’s hard to find your way around the meandering streets. In the evening we join our host for dinner to dinner. Yusuf chose a great restaurant for us, Megayildiz Aile Lokantasi, where a variety of Turkish dishes were served – everyone could choose what they wanted. A special room with a Turkish decor was reserved for us, we felt like special guests. In the company of Yusuf and physics teacher – Mehmet Seker – we participated in a feast for our senses. It was diverse, colorful and really delicious for everyone. We liked the food very much. During dinner we had time to talk, we learned a lot about education and life in Turkey. We talk about Poland, the atmosphere is very pleasant. The meeting ends with traditional Turkish sweets and tea. It’s really late and we’re going to have an adventure tomorrow!
